PEOPLE

Expressive Trajectories is a project for Interactive Digital Art and Contemporary Dance. The project has two main components: X-Motion, a real-time interactive system for live performances; and Choreographisms, an interface abstraction for graphical interpretation of motion-paths. This framework is demonstrated through experiments that include a choreography of the artist Analivia Cordeiro for the piece Unsquare Dance.

X-MOTION

the X--Motion system enables the design of a virtual dynamic stage that is linked to the dance. The system uses movements of dancers as an input for the generation of graphisms that are projected on the set in real-time.

CHOREOGRAPHISMS

Choreographisms is the conceptual abstraction used to develop visual scores for the X-Motion system. It defines the generative rules that transform a motion path into an active dynamic shape.

UNSQUARE DANCE

This experience included a series of dance performances based on a choreography of Analivia Cordeiro and real-time interaction with the system "X-Motion". The title of the work comes from the music "Unsquare Dance" by Dave Brubeck. The piece consists of a live performance in a dynamic stage composed of projected computer graphics elements.

PEOPLE

The project "Expressive Trajectories" was created by Luiz Velho at IMPA. The software X-Motion was designed and developed by Luiz Velho and Julio Lucio Martins. The user interface and graphics components of the project exploit design concepts developed by Alice Bodanzky in her undergraduate final project, Choreographisms at ESDI/UERJ, co-supervised by Silvia Steinberg and Luiz Velho. The project also counts with the general technical support of Ilana Paterman, working on video editing and webdesign.
