Abstract. This paper presents a semi-automatic method for morphologic and morphometric evaluation of myelinated axons from images of their cross sections. Digital image processing techniques and a system based on fuzzy rules are applied for classifying axon and non-axon regions. The obtained results show the viability of the method to this application and that the method can also be extended to other similar applications.
